The Economic Planning Board for Ontario

The Economic Planning Board for Ontario is a volunteer organization, established to provide services to the members of the Ismaili Muslim Community of Ontario.


The Economic Planning Board’s Mission is to improve the economic well being of the Ismaili Community by providing guidance and assistance towards a sound financial base

Our Services

Skills & Employment PROGRAM (SEP)

  • Mission: To empower individuals to acquire the skills and knowledge to become gainfully employed
  • Services:
    • Counseling: Career assessment, assistance with skills enhancement, job development, resume writing, job search skills techniques, career counseling and interview preparation
    • Employer Services: strives to build partnerships with Employers and maintains job advertisements on the SEP Canada website (www.sepcanada.com, Password: guest)
    • Referrals to government-funded agencies and programs or schools; Apprenticeships


  • Organizes and manages the Ismaili Business and Professionals Association to facilitate networking, referrals and to provide support systems to members. Publishes articles of interest from time to time
  • Supports EPB’s mandate to form alliances benefitting common interests
  • Holds information sessions on the Economic climate, investments, leadership, career development and others relevant and timely topics

Entrepreneurship PROGRAM (EP)

  • Business Counseling provides support for starting small and micro enterprises.
  • The components of this program consist of:
    • Knowledge through Business training consisting of business planning, cash flow projections, managing and growth is provided.
    • On-going Support and counseling through mentorship.

Communication and Financial Literacy (CFL)

  • Organizes comprehensive educational modules by industry experts in the areas of:
    • Smart Money Management
    • Wealth Generation and Preservation
    • Financial Planning
  • Ad hoc seminars on various topics such as Wills and Estate Planning, RRSPs, RESPs, etc.
  • Organizes Income Tax Clinics
    • Assists members in completing simple Income Tax Returns
  • Assigns Debt Management Consultants to counsel members in managing issues with personal debt


  • Provides sources of Quality Housing
    • Crises
    • Short Term Rental


  • Manages the CRCs to provide basic and advanced computer courses at a nominal cost. New classes begin every month. Courses include:
    • Introduction to computers/internet
    • Microsoft Office: Access, Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • There are currently 3 CRC locations:
    • Don Mills, Headquarters and Willowdale Jamatkhanas
    • And a Mobile CRC which is deployed to smaller Jamatkhanas based on need.
